A downloadable version of the DVD

One of the things that was highlighted in our recent survey (existing customers click here ) was that many people prefer electronic downloads to physical delivery.
We’ve always believed the amount of data was too large to be downloaded (there’s about 1.4 GB on the DVD) but we’ve managed to compress it down to around 850MB.

It seems that the days of dial-up are behind us so we are going to offer electronic download versions of the DVD (2.81 only). The contents will be the same but compressed into a single ZIP file so those with fast connections might want to look at the download version as an alternative. Our server supports resuming so using a download manager (IDM, Flashget, Getright etc) should make an 850mb download possible for most people. The physical disks will still be an option for those who would rather not use the download.

The usual upgrade terms will still apply (DVD price less existing order value) and we should have it available early next week.

On the subject of the survey I know many of you will have been unable to access it due to the problems with the servers on Thursday. Most of the SF area was without access to the internet (or telephones) for about 8 hours. Unfortunately the company that hosted the survey for us is based in that area. Everything is working again now so the link customers receievd in the newsletter should be active. The $10 voucher is still applicable too.

When a few more surveys are completed I’ll post a summary of the results online.
